HELP WANTED: PROFESSIONAL WRITER/JOURNALIST
The Detroit Food Policy Council (DFPC), a 21-member advisory group committed to nurturing the development and maintenance of a sustainable, localized food system and a food-secure Detroit, seeks a professional writer/journalist to author its 2011 City of Detroit Food System Report.
This annual report “assesses the state of the city’s food system, including activities in production, distribution, consumption, waste generation and composting, nutrition and food assistance program participation and innovative food system programs.”
The 2011 edition of the Food System Report will concentrate on developments in urban agriculture and food in Detroit schools. The writer will author these two issue-focused chapters (about 10-12 pages each) and a 2-3 page DFPC-focused introduction, along with one-page summaries of the issue chapters.
The issue chapters will provide the unique Detroit history of the issues, as well as the voices and experiences of Detroit residents, while also giving an overview of key facts and figures, as well as key programs and policies.
The project timeframe begins Feb. 1, with the hiring of the writer, with the final draft completed by May 15, 2012. The report will be published both online as a downloadable document and in hard copy.
Please submit your resume, your customary fee schedule, and three published writing samples by Jan. 23, 2012, to DFPC Coordinator Cheryl Simon at detroitfoodpolicycouncil@gmail.com.
